Headaches, nausea, tachycardia, abdominal pain, flatulence and skin rashes as well as itching may be signs of histamine intolerance.
Histamine Intolerance is an intolerance of histamine consumed through food. It is caused by a deficiency of the histamine-degrading enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) or an imbalance of histamine and DAO. As far as experts are concerned, it is not normally caused by genetic factors but is an acquired disease, often identified as a secondary condition to another.
Check your histamine tolerance easily and conveniently from home. The test is used to determine the concentration of diamine oxidase (DAO) in your blood. The histamine intolerance test includes free return mailing and evaluation in our specialised diagnostic laboratory as well as a detailed and personalised results report.

Symptoms of a histamine intolerance
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Menstruation problems
- Nausea when travelling by car
- Cardiovascular problems
Histamine is responsible for the body’s defense against unwanted substances. An intolerance is a trigger for allergies and often occurs in people with a disturbed intestinal barrier. Histamine is a neurotransmitter and is degraded by the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO). If the intestine is weakened or ill, the production of diamine oxidase may be too low.
Please note that a relevant result is only guaranteed in case you eat a varied diet prior (approx 2 weeks) to taking the sample. Please don't avoid or reduce the consumption of food containing histamine. Please don't take antihistamines.
Your personal test results
As soon as your sample has been evaluated, you will receive your individual result report via the My Cerascreen App or our secure online customer area. You can easily view the report on your smartphone or computer or print it out.
Result of laboratory analysis: You will find out more about your concentration of diamine oxidase (DAO), which may indicate histamine intolerance.
Individualized Practical Recommendations: We explain how to avoid foods that cause discomfort in case of histamine intolerance.
Important health information: Read more about what histamine does to your body - and how it is related to the DAO enzyme.
