Why am I constantly tired?

Sure, if you suffer from constant fatigue, you may simply not be sleeping enough. But more often than not, it is not quite that simple. Many people actually get enough good-quality sleep and still go about their day tired and worn out. It affects concentration, productivity, mood and energy levels.

This sluggishness or fatigue may be linked to a certain nutrient deficiency. In other words, your body’s fuel is running low – on reserve energy! Your body needs energy, vitamins and minerals, among other things, so that it is a fully and optimally functioning well-oiled machine.

There may additionally be other factors affecting your sleep, such as the occurrence of emotional events in your life – for example, a breakup or loss, or if you suffer from depression, stress or anxiety.

Vitamin D: good for catching ZzZs

Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem, with constant fatigue recognised as a typical symptom. If you want to know whether you have low vitamin D levels, a blood test will tell you what you need to know. Laboratories can measure the concentration of vitamin D3 in your blood sample; this is the active form of the vitamin and is currently considered the best indicator of how well your body is supplied with vitamin D. One such blood test is the cerascreen® Vitamin D Test.

Goodbye, fatigue symptoms

If it is not vitamin D your body is lacking, a whole host of other nutrient deficiencies could be the cause of your constant fatigue. If your body’s deficient in minerals such as zinc and magnesium, iron, iodine or vitamin B12, this can also make you tired and low on energy.

For these nutrients, you can find appropriate blood tests in our online shop. If you want to test your magnesium, selenium or zinc levels, opt for our popular Mineral Deficiency Test. If you’re concerned about your iron levels or vitamin B12 levels, you should order our Ferritin Blood Test or our Vitamin B12 Test.
