Histamine Intolerance is an intolerance of histamine consumed through food. It is caused by a deficiency of the histamine-degrading enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO), or an imbalance of histamine and DAO. As far as experts are concerned, it is not normally caused by genetic factors but is an acquired disease, often identified as a secondary condition to another.
Check your histamine tolerance easily and conveniently from home. The test is used to determine the concentration of diamine oxidase (DAO) in your blood. The histamine intolerance test includes free return mailing and evaluation in our specialised diagnostic laboratory as well as a detailed and personalised results report.

Symptoms of a histamine intolerance
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Headaches
- Menstruation problems
- Asthma
- Nausea when travelling by car
- Cardiovascular problems
Histamine plays a role in the body’s defense against unwanted substances. An intolerance is a trigger for allergic reactions and often occurs in people with a disturbed intestinal barrier. Histamine is a neurotransmitter broken down by the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO). If the intestine is weakened or ill, the production of diamine oxidase may be too low.
Please note that a relevant result is only guaranteed if you eat a varied diet prior to taking the sample (for approx. 2 weeks). Please do not avoid or reduce your consumption of food containing histamine. Please do not take antihistamines.
