Macronutrients: what are macronutrients?

What are macronutrients? Macronutrients are food components that provide us humans with energy and include carbohydrates, fats and proteins. They are the basic building blocks of most of the foods we eat every day.

Macronutrients (makros’ in Greek meaning big’) are what our bodies need every day to function. Whether as building blocks for all cells, as components that supply us with energy or for a healthy and functioning cardiovascular system, carbohydrates, fats and proteins ensure our survival.

Everything we eat consists, to a large extent, of one or more of these crucial macronutrients. But consuming a lot of them does not always guarantee us better health. We need not only pay attention to how many macronutrients we consume, but also which building blocks they consist of. Some building blocks in fats, carbohydrates and proteins are particularly important, while others should only be eaten in moderation because they can promote the development of certain diseases if consumed in excessive quantities.
