What are hormone test kits?

Hormone test kits can give you an indication of whether the hormone levels in your body are within a healthy range and whether your hormones are able to function properly.

Hormones are messenger substances in your body that carry out important processes. They travel with the blood to pass chemically encoded information from one part of the body to another. Depending on the hormone, this information transfer takes varying lengths of time, from a few seconds to several hours. Once they have reached their destination, hormones usually trigger a complex chain of reactions.

Why are hormone tests important?

Glands in certain organs produce hormones. Adrenaline and cortisol, for example, are produced in the adrenal gland, the sleep hormone melatonin in the brain’s pineal gland, serotonin in the intestine and in nerve cells, and the sex hormones oestrogen and testosterone mainly in the ovaries and testicles respectively.

You can measure your hormone levels with cerascreen®’s range of hormone testing kits – including the Testosterone Test, Thyroid Test, Cortisol Test, for example. Most of these tests are saliva tests, which means that a swab of saliva from the oral mucosa is collected.

What happens when our hormone balance is disrupted?

Certain factors can disrupt your hormonal balance. If, as a consequence, a hormone deficiency or surplus occurs, this can have serious consequences for your health. There are numerous symptoms associated with hormonal disruption, and they are unfortunately not always easy to recognise.

For example, chronic stress can result in permanently elevated cortisol levels, which increases the risk of osteoporosis and is potentially also associated with depression. With the cerascreen® Cortisol Test you can have your cortisol levels measured easily and conveniently – only a saliva sample is needed!

If your sleep hormone – that is, your melatonin levels – are too high or now, this can lead to sleep disorders and a lack of sleep. Other than taking a melatonin hormone test kit, you can regulate your melatonin levels better with our range of sleep improvement supplements. If the concentration of our happiness hormone serotonin is too low, we might experience low energy, fatigue and low moods. If you confirm a serotonin deficiency with a serotonin hormone test, the good news is that there are plenty of supplements promoting mental balance in our online shop that will help you with these symptoms.

What about sex hormone test kits?

As we get older, our sex hormones can also get out of whack. If oestrogen levels in women drop too much before menopause, menstruation stops early, and in the worst-case, can lead to infertility. We are looking to relaunch our oestrogen hormone testing kit in the coming weeks and are excited to share this with you.

A testosterone deficiency can lead, among other things, to reduced muscle power and physical performance as well as erectile dysfunction. Too much testosterone, on the other hand, can lead to women have a deeper voice, reduced sex drive and menstrual cycle problems. Men with too much testosterone may experience impotence, hair loss and flatulence. Testosterone levels can be tested easily by sending in a saliva sample collected as part of the cerascreen® Testosterone Test – our male sex hormone test kit.

How can you measure hormone levels with hormone tests?

Since the symptoms of disrupted hormones are often ambiguous, it is always worthwhile checking your hormone levels. If hormone levels are too high or too low, this can also often give an indication of diseases and unhealthy habits against which you can take action.

With the cerascreen® hormone testing kits, you can measure the levels of various hormones, including cortisol and testosterone. Our range of hormone test kits is constantly growing, so make sure that you keep your eyes peeled for new additions to our collections.

To perform a hormone test, you need to collect saliva samples and send them to our medical laboratory. You will then receive a detailed report with your individual hormone levels and tips on how to optimise certain hormone levels.
